Description
Rail Viaduct across the Murrumbidgee floodplain at Gundagai, New South Wales, Australia. The complete viaduct is 819m long consisting of 72 timber trusses, the longest timber truss structure ever built in Australia, and a steel bridge over the main channel of the river. It was constructed in 1903 when the railway line from Cootamundra to Gundagai was extended to Tumut. The service was discontinued in 1984. Unfortunately, the timberwork is now in a very sorry state.
