Description
The Purana Qila is a citadel in Delhi, India supposedly dating back to about the year 1533 when Sher Shah Suri defeated Humayun, although much more ancient structures have been discovered within its walls. The western walls of the citadel are lined with hallways or rooms, many of which are now in ruins. The ruins in this image show the type of structures behind the wall better than would be seen from the intact rooms as those are closed to the public. The main outside wall is the one with the blackened mortar. The Archeological Service, whose offices are in some of the intact rooms, is undertaking conservation work on the structures seen here.
