Description
Adventure Bay, Bruny Island, Tasmania, Australia
Two Tree Point at the mouth of Resolution Creek, Bruny Island – This place was registered #10914 on the now “rescinded” Tasmanian Heritage Register. Its importance derives from its history as an early European landing site in Australia. Both Captain James Cook and Captain William Bligh replenished their fresh water supplies from Resolution Creek at Two Tree Point. In 1792 William Bligh spent two weeks at Adventure Bay and a member of his crew, Lieutenant George Tobin, produced a series of watercolours, one of which, ‘In Adventure Bay, Van Diemen’s Land’, shows a point with two trees which look very like younger versions of the trees that currently stand there (as shown in this photograph). However, it has not been conclusively established that they are the same trees.

Thank you William, that's very kind of you - perhaps just inspired by the view as George Tobin over 200 years ago!
